Tyler is a very good guitarist and I thought it would be cool to set him up with his guitar on some train tracks. He’s one of my senior reps for 2012 and plans to attend college in Chicago. Let me tell you that Chicago would be a fantastic place to attend college. Tyler is also a avid skateboarder and disc golfer, we have some ideas for skateboarding and disc golf shots. Stay tuned!

Opening Day at Comerica Park

Opening Day for the Detroit Tigers has come and gone. Started off with a bit of rain but by the end of the game the sun shined through and the Tigers walked away with a win. This shot is from the roof of the Broderick Tower overlooking Comerica Park. There is not another shot out there like this as I was the only soul on the roof.

It was a very clear morning and I knew the sunrise would be perfect to shoot atop the Broderick. The problem would be getting downtown in time. See, I dont drive downtown that often and I never do it while the morning rush hour is about to hit. I wanted to get to the Broderick with plenty of time to climb the 34 floors to the top without rushing.

Well, getting a late start and fighting that traffic made me late by 15-20 minutes. So know that the sunrise was about to come about my morning host, Brad, and I had to practically run up the floors. I was winded by the 8th floor. When we rounded the steps to floors 21-22 I was feeling a bit woozy to say the least. Having to take a break for a minute, Brad was kind enough to grab my back pack full of camera gear and huff it up the remaining floors. I can not thank him enough.

So here we were with a few minutes to spare. I grabbed the tripod and camera and started to shoot. I then fitted on my new North Star filter from Tiffen and saw the sun explode before my eyes. What a cool effect.

The sun was incredible that morning. Spectacular in fact. So after a quick sunrise shoot we packed it up and shot some more of the upper level floors. Brad bought lunch, thanks Brad, and we called it a day. And it was a great day!

So the first shoot ended with Scott and I stopping on the 24th floor. So I showed up on this warm Wednesday evening after receiving a call from Brad telling me that the renovation was going from top to bottom rather than bottom to top. I wanted to get in the floors we missed from the previous shoot. I’m so happy I did as this is the last time these floors/rooms will be photographed in their current state. While the floors weren’t as exciting as the previous floors there was some pretty cool things to shoot. Offices and studios of old WJLB, the skybar and huge windows overlooking downtown. This time Nick was my host and we stayed until the sun set. While clouds came about and ruined what would’ve been a perfect shoot most of the images came out really well. Check em out below.

So the journey begins. I will be shooting the renovation of the Broderick Tower in Detroit. After a long day of first run shots I did come away with some stellar images. My hosts, Nick, Scott and Brad were fantastic. Very smart and knew the building really well. This will be a long project. Stay tuned.

Salt and Pepper

2010 brought some rough times for Pepper. She had 2 TPLO surgery’s. After months of recovery and a bit of snowfall we got her out and about in the snow. Needless to say she loves it. Well, she’s always loved the snow, sadly I dont. Well here she is in all her glory…

Braving the cold brisk wind coming off the lake Caitlin did a fantastic job of posing. She wasn’t afraid to get in there and have a good time, whether tossing leaves or standing shore side. It was a great shoot!
